I got this error when calling directory() on IndexReader that is returned by LuceneSearchEngineInternalSearch.getReader():

java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: This reader does not support this method.

This is not up to Compass, as you get this exception from Lucene. Why do you need the Directory for? Maybe I can expose a simpler API for this.
